Góralei Miłośnicy Podhala

Polish highland culture, food and music — in Brooksville, Florida.

ABOUT US

Keeping Podhale alive in Florida

Founded in 2026

We are a Florida non‑profit formed to promote, preserve and celebrate the culture and traditions of the Podhale region and the Góral community.

We meet through the year — for New Year, for the holidays, and whenever there is a good reason to cook for a crowd. What ends up on the table depends on the occasion and on who is doing the cooking: kiełbasa z kapustą one time, pierogi or placki ziemniaczane the next, somebody’s cake, usually a Polish beer to go with it. There’s Polish music, there’s dancing, and by the end of the evening it feels like one large Polish family.

We are a Polish community in Hernando County, Florida, and the only Góral organisation in this part of the state. People come from Brooksville, Spring Hill, Weeki Wachee and across the Tampa Bay area — some for the Polish Mass, some for the food, some just to hear the language spoken.

You don’t need a ticket and you don’t need to sign up. Come to whichever gathering suits you, whether your family came from the mountains or you simply like the food and the company.

Coffee and cake after every Mass

After Mass, come up to the farm. It’s a few minutes along the same road, and there’s no need to bring anything.

A stone monument on the farm topped with a carved eagle, inscribed Górale i Miłośnicy Podhala 2026, surrounded by red flowers.

SINCE 1915

The little church in the oaks

A small group of Polish farming families bought land here in Hernando County and built the first St. Stanislaus in 1915, so they’d have somewhere to go to Mass in their own language. A priest came out from St. Leo Abbey once a month. Fire destroyed that first church in 1929 and the community rebuilt it the same year — the plain clapboard building that still stands today.

Poor soil and the Depression eventually scattered the settlement, and for years afterwards Mass was said here only once a year. That’s changing. Our community has brought the little church back to life, and Mass is celebrated here twice a month again.
